FAQs

Resident's RoomHow do I know my family member will get the care I want her/him to get at Thornapple Manor?
"Day in and day out, we give same consistent quality of care, keeping our full time staff members in the same neighborhoods, which enhances the ability for staff to develop caring and loving relationships with the residents. Additionally, allowing staff to have time to interact with the residents, and an excellent survey history reflect the strong continuum of dignified, quality care your loved one will receive." Jackie Schantz, Director of Nursing

If we need a special diet, can you accommodate the request?
"Special diets are no problem as we work with all residents on an individual basis to meet their dietary needs or requirements." Paul Humphrey, Dietary Production Director.

Does the facility offer fresh fruits and vegetables on a daily basis?
"We always have fruits available like bananas, oranges and apples plus a variety of seasonal fruits. Fresh vegetables include salads with a multitude of toppings. Should our residents desire special items, we do our best to accommodate that request."

How are daily, routine, or dietary preferences addressed?
"When someone moves into our home, either temporarily or permanently, he or she is interviewed personally to find out what their food likes and dislikes are, what special requests they may have, what their usual eating habits are, and what diet the doctor may recommend and why. We also spend time with each person educating them on their individual dietary need." Cassie Jacobs, Clinical Dietary Director.

How can I be assured that my family member will have clean, well kept clothes on every day?
"I make it very clear even in my interviews of new staff that family is #1 above this job. When training I also tell the staff to treat, wash clothes, clean, etc. as if they were doing it for their own family member. If you wouldn't put that dress or shirt on your mom or dad, then don't expect the residents here to wear it. I also stress the fact that some of these residents have no family, so we are their family and we are their voice for those who are not able to voice their concerns." Anna Preston, Assistant Director of Housekeeping, Laundry and Central Supply
